Al Jarreau — Heart's Horizon
Produced by George Duke & Jay Graydon

After taking a few risks with L Is For Lover, Jarreau returns with a more conventional album. Employing talented producer George Duke, Jarreau is in the zone putting together an impressive collection of songs. You'll be touched by the tenderness of some: The personal title song has a Mediterranean appeal to it; More Love is beautifully apologetic. Killer Love is maniacal fun (it's from the movie Skin Deep so what do you expect?) The impressive list of featured players includes David Sanborn (sax on So Good), Kirk Whalum (sax on Killer Love), and Bobby McFerrin (duet on Yo' Jeans).

More 1988 Albums:

Patti Austin — The Real Me
Produced by David Pack
A beautiful album of lovingly performed standards is Patti Austin's best album.  Includes an amazing Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.

Chaka Khan — c.k.
Various Producers
This album is redeemed by two awesome performances of the standards The End Of A Love Affair and I'll Be Around.

Jeffrey Osborne — One Love, One Dream
Various Producers
Osborne uses his awesome voice to great effect here.  I especially like All Because Of You.

Take 6
Produced by Mark Kibble, Cluade V. McKnight, III & Mervyn E. Warren
The debut of this gospel acapella sextet is a must have for anyone who enjoys vocal arrangements.

Luther Vandross — Any Love
Produced by Luther Vandross & Marcus Miller
His best stuff tends to be his "reinterpretations" and in this case the remake of Love Won't Let Me Wait is the standout track.

Gerald Alston
Produced by Stan Sheppard & James Varner
The Manhatttans lead vocalist doesn't get much acclaim but he's one of the best around.  Features Take Me Where You Want To.

George Benson — Twice The Love
Various producers
Somewhat disappointing my GB standards but it does include the Chicago-esque Starting All Over.

Bobby Brown — Don’t Be Cruel
Various producers
This former New Edition had a surprise hit with this breakout album.  Features My Prerogative and Roni.

Siedah Garrett — Kiss Of Life
Produced by Rod Temperton
Siedah's first album after her big duet with Michael Jackson and Rod Temperton's debut as a producer.  Doesn't quite live up to expectations but is interesting nonetheless.
